Indian Chess Company is proud to collaborate with Chess Praxis aka Steven Kong for the exact reproduction of American Chess Company's Chess Set.

A bit of history:

It is believed that these unique chessmen with their "spire topped" Kings date from 1860 as seen in various period photographs found in the famous John G. White collection held at the Cleveland Public Library.  Although there have been a number of variations identified, these charming chessmen with the "rabbit or llama" style knights are thought to have been marketed through the American Chess Company, whose origin dates to the late 1890s when the first advertisements included the recognizable illustration in the third incarnation of the American Chess Magazine.

The unique knights that this reproduction is based on are known to date from 1870-1890 as documented in both private and public collections that at this time are thought to have been manufactured and marketed in the United States.

Along with a distinctive pedigree that includes similar chessmen being used during the famous International Masters Tournament held in 1904 at Cambridge Springs, this reproduction represents a truly distinguished period of Chess history.

1904 ACC Chess set

This is a promising set which I had in collaboration with Gurpreet Singh basing from my 3.15" scale original set to be reproduced. We gone through a series of checks and balanced to bring to you a true to the exact reproduction ever made. It's a well balance set from the top of the pieces down to the weighting. It's a process done by his skillfully selected craftsman. I am very delightful to add on to my collection.

Accurate Reproduction

I have waited for the arrival of this set for quite sometime as its supposed release was delayed but now Gurpreet has brought it out, I am really happy to own this set. I particularly like the unique llama knight. This set is an accurate reproduction of the historical 1904 American Chess Company set. Thanks to Gurpreet and Chess Praxis for this worthy collaboration that collectors can enjoy.

Beginning of a Promising Collaboration

1904 American Chess Co. Set, a reproduction by the Indian Chess Company and Gurpreet Singh in collaboration with Stephen Kong, aka Chess Praxis, the first of what promises to be a long line of significant reproductions. Very nicely made and aesthetically pleasing, not always easy to achieve when upscaling from a smaller original. It plays well with a good feel in hand. Nicely weighted and well-balanced. Just be careful if you use them for blitz or rapid play. The knights’ ears and kings’ pointy finials may be susceptible to damage, a feature of the original design rather than how it was reproduced.
