Design Features

The 1933 Soviet Era Botvinnik chess set is a remarkable example of early Soviet chess artistry, designed with functional elegance. The set features thin shafts on the pieces, providing a slender, streamlined appearance. One of the standout features is the knight, which has distinct manes on both sides, a unique design element that gives it a dynamic, asymmetrical look. This set was closely associated with Botvinnik, a renowned Soviet Grandmaster, and reflects the cultural and artistic trends of the time. Its design is both minimalist and functional, emphasizing clarity and balance on the chessboard.
