The Golden Craftsman chess set, manufactured by the Indian Chess Company, is a rare and highly regarded reproduction of the iconic Golden Craftsman Staunton chess set. The original set was created by a Japanese craftsman in occupied Japan during the post-World War II era, known for its intricate craftsmanship and elegant design. The reproduction by the Indian Chess Company sought to capture the essence of the original, maintaining the same detailed craftsmanship and luxurious appearance. After purchasing the magnificent first version of this set with antiqued boxwood pieces, I just had to add the second version in natural boxwood. The Golden Castle Craftsmen is a superb reproduction in every way, to be enjoyed by both the tournament player and collector.
The original Japanese Golden Castle set were made to resemble the vintage Jaques of London sets. Kudos to the Indian Chess Company and Gurpreet Singh Khokhar for this classic reproduction made in the spirit of the Golden Castle Craftmen-Jaques of London connection. A superb playing set for blitz or tournament play offering a heavily weighted 3.5" set with wide-base pieces. A fabulous set for the collector with finely turned pieces, exquisite hand carved knights. The ebony and polished natural boxwood pieces are so impressive.
