Bobby Fischer knows best!, His Choice, The Elegant 1973 Philippines Int'l Tournament Set
Many thanks to Gurpreet Singh Khokhar for making this outstanding exact 1973 Philippines International Tournament set reproduction at my request. This is the The Indian Chess Company's fabulous second version in the distressed antique boxwood. With this additon to my collection, I now how both wonderful versions. Interesting history is that Bobby Fischer was the guest of Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos during the tournament and he had Bobby select a set for use in the tournament. He chose this elegant set, and rightfully so! The individual pieces lend to the overall beauty of this set. The unique Bishops standing taller then the Queens. The imposing Knights with their heads pointed upward, the King with the Philippine cross finial and the finely turned rooks and Pawns. And the unique antique distressed brown finish makes this set even more impressive. The pieces exhibit a fabulous board presence. I can't stop looking at this gorgeous set, also suitable for display. A wonderful collectiblle historical reproduction suitable for tournament, blitz or home play.
