The Zagreb chess set is a unique and elegant design that gained prominence during the 1959 Candidates Tournament held in Zagreb. Distinguished by its distinctively larger and wider bases, especially the knight, which features a stylized and bold look, this set became an iconic representation of mid-20th-century chess aesthetics. The contrasting dark and light wood pieces, with their intricate carvings and rounded tops on bishops and pawns, make it visually appealing. This set has since become a favorite among collectors and players for its historical significance and timeless design.

Outstanding pieces. One small problem - the top piece of one of the Black Bishops became loose when I replaced it in the foam case it came packed in - I will use some glue to stick it back in.
I recently purchased the Russian Zagreb chess set from the Indian Chess Company, and I couldn’t be happier. The craftsmanship is impeccable, with beautifully carved pieces that feel substantial and elegant. The iconic knight design truly stands out, making every game feel special. To my surprise, the set arrived in just five days from India to the U.S., exceeding my expectations for international delivery. Highly recommended for collectors and serious players alike!
